As the Director of Systems Development at Point2 Technologies I try to make developing software fun for everyone and strive to ensure that what’s being delivered is valuable.
I attended the University of Calgary from 1993-1996 and left to become a professional software developer before completing my degree. I found the experience tremendously valuable and regret not finishing. Now that I have a family, going back isn’t easy. However, if I had the financial independance to dedicate myself, I would love to study commerce, nano-technology, molecular biology, and quantum computing/physics.
My name is Zach Scott and I have been writing software for about 12 years professionally (23 years total); I was hooked at age 10 when I made an ASCII * bounce around the screen on a Commodore 64. For most of my professional career I have been involved with numerous enterprise and web-based software development initiatives. I am an Agile proponent interested in a wide variety of languages and technologies. I play with lots of different technologies on my own time believing that a larger knowledge-base makes choosing the right tool for the job more likely. I have been an architect, developer, and manager, and I have co-founded a few companies.
I will write about past and present experiences relating to constructing software on this blog.
